Dense, chewy chocolate cookie bars with a deep caramelized sugar flavor and soft, fudgy center.

Ingredients
- 44g unsalted butter, melted
- 15g caster sugar
- 33g light brown sugar
- 5g dark brown sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 75g all-purpose flour
- 15g cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 50g chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a small square baking pan with parchment paper.
- Whisk the melted butter, caster sugar, light brown sugar, and dark brown sugar in a medium bowl until smooth.
- Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, whisking until combined and slightly glossy.
- Fold in the flour, cocoa powder, and baking soda using a spatula until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Gently stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Spread the dough into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula until ready to serve.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are set but the center remains slightly soft.
- Cool completely in the pan before slicing into bars to ensure they set properly.
