Malawian-Style Beef Pies by Thehalfricanfoodie
Savory, spiced beef filling encased in a golden, flaky pastry crust, perfect for handheld snacking.

Ingredients
- 500g (1.1 lb) ground beef
- 1 large onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp curry powder
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Sauté the onion in a pan over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until soft and translucent.
- Add the ground beef to the pan, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook for 8-10 minutes until browned.
- Stir in the garlic, curry powder, cumin, coriander, salt, and pepper; cook for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Remove the filling from heat and allow it to cool slightly before assembling.
- Cut each sheet of puff pastry into 4 squares; place a spoonful of beef mixture in the center of each.
- Fold the pastry over to form a triangle or rectangle, pressing the edges firmly with a fork to seal
- Brush the tops of the pies with the beaten egg and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
