Ingredients
- 1 burger bun
- 4 oz plant-based meat
- 2 slices Roma tomato
- 1 leaf green lettuce
- 1 slice vegan American cheese
- 1 cup vegan mayo
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 1/2 tsp dill pickle brine
- 1 tsp vegan Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1 pinch cayenne
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp neutral oil
- 1 tsp vegan butter or oil, for toasting buns
Instructions
- Make the Shack sauce by combining vegan mayo, Dijon mustard, ketchup, dill pickle brine, vegan Worcestershire, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper in a bowl, then refrigerate for 5 minutes.
- Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat, brush the bun with vegan butter or oil, and toast it until golden brown, about 1 to 2 minutes per side.
- Form the plant-based meat into a 3 to 4 oz ball, add the oil to the hot skillet, and smash the ball to about 1/2 inch thick with a sturdy spatula.
- Cook the patty for about 2 minutes, until a deep brown crust forms on the bottom and it releases from the pan.
- Flip the patty, add the vegan cheese, splash in a few drops of water, cover immediately, and steam until the cheese melts, about 1 minute.
- Assemble the burger on the bottom bun with Shack sauce, the patty, tomato slices, lettuce, more sauce, and the top bun, then serve immediately.
