Air Fryer Churros by Thebakingbuddha

Crispy, golden churros made effortlessly in an air fryer with no oil, coated in cinnamon sugar.

Serves: 4Prep: 20 minCook: 15 min

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240 ml) water
  • 1/4 cup (55g) unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, 1 tablespoon sugar, and salt. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium heat, stirring until the butter is melted.
  2. Remove the saucepan from heat and immediately add the all-purpose flour. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl and let it cool for 5 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next, until the dough is smooth and glossy.
  4. Spoon the churro dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star nozzle (like a Wilton 1M or 21).
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 190°C (375°F) for 5 minutes.
  6. Pipe 4-6 inch long churros directly onto the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not touch. You may need to work in batches.
  7. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the churros are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. While the churros are cooking, combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a shallow dish.
  9. Immediately after removing from the air fryer, roll the warm churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated. Serve warm.
