Serves: 4Prep: 15 minCook: 20 min

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 12 taco shells or tortillas (corn or flour)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped white onion (optional)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup salsa

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until fully browned, about 7-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Stir in the taco seasoning mix and water. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  3. While the beef simmers, prepare your toppings: shred lettuce, dice tomato, chop onion, and shred cheese if not pre-shredded.
  4. Warm the taco shells or tortillas according to package directions. For soft tortillas, heat in a dry skillet for 15-20 seconds per side, or microwave briefly. For hard shells, bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes until crisp.
  5. Spoon the seasoned ground beef into the warm taco shells or tortillas. Top with shredded lettuce, cheese, diced tomato, and chopped onion.
  6. Serve immediately with sour cream and salsa on the side.
