Homemade Doner Kebab by Reemaislam

Spiced ground beef loaf roasted until crispy, served in warm pita with creamy garlic sauce.

Ingredients
- 900g (2 lb) ground beef (20% fat)
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 4 pita bread
- 1 cup plain greek yogurt
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Combine ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper in a large bowl, kneading thoroughly for 5 minutes until the texture is very tacky and uniform.
- Form the meat mixture into a tight, smooth log shape and wrap it tightly in aluminum foil, twisting the ends to seal.
- Place the meat log on a baking sheet and bake for 60 minutes until firm.
- Remove from the oven, unwrap, and let the meat rest for 15 minutes before slicing into thin strips.
- Sear the meat strips in a hot skillet for 2-3 minutes per side until the edges are crispy.
- Whisk together yogurt, minced garlic, and lemon juice in a small bowl for the sauce.
- Assemble the kebabs by tucking the crispy meat strips into warm pita bread and drizzling with the garlic yogurt sauce.
