Ingredients
- 250g (2 cup) all-purpose flour
- 200g (1 cup) granulated sugar
- 75g (3/4 cup) cocoa powder
- 1.5 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 240ml (1 cup) whole milk
- 120ml (1/2 cup) vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 200g (3/4 cup) semisweet chocolate chips (for syrup)
- 120ml (1/2 cup) heavy cream (for syrup)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl until combined.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Prepare the syrup by heating the heavy cream in a small saucepan until simmering, then pour over the chocolate chips and stir until glossy.
- Poke holes into the warm cake using a skewer and pour the chocolate syrup evenly over the top, letting it soak into the sponge before serving until ready to serve.
