Smothered Ribeye Steak by Paulinajoyc

Tender pan-seared ribeye steak smothered in a savory brown onion gravy with classic southern sides.

Ingredients

  • 2 ribeye steaks (approx. 8-10 oz each)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Season the ribeye steaks generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder on both sides until ready to serve.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear the steaks for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown; remove and set aside.
  3. Add the remaining oil to the same skillet and sauté the sliced onions over medium heat for 8-10 minutes until soft and caramelized.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and cook, stirring constantly, for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
  5. Whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan, and simmer for 5 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  6. Return the steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until heated through and coated.
