Pan-seared turnip cake featuring savory Chinese sausage and tender daikon radish in a crisp golden crust.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb daikon radish
  • 3 chinese sausage
  • 0.25 cup dried shrimp
  • 1.5 cup rice flour
  • 0.5 cup wheat starch
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp white pepper
  • 1.5 cup water

Instructions

  1. Rehydrate dried shrimp in warm water for 20 minutes, then finely chop along with the Chinese sausage.
  2. Grate the daikon radish into thin strips and sauté in a large pan until softened and translucent, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Add chopped sausage and shrimp to the pan, cooking for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Mix rice flour, wheat starch, salt, white pepper, and water in a large bowl to create a smooth batter
  5. Stir the cooked daikon mixture into the batter until well combined.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased cake pan and steam over boiling water for 45-60 minutes until set.
  7. Remove from steamer, let cool completely, then slice into rectangles.
  8. Pan-fry the slices in a lightly oiled skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
