Classic Chinese Turnip Cake (Lo Bak Go) by Omnivores Cookbook
Pan-seared turnip cake featuring savory Chinese sausage and tender daikon radish in a crisp golden crust.

Ingredients
- 1.5 lb daikon radish
- 3 chinese sausage
- 0.25 cup dried shrimp
- 1.5 cup rice flour
- 0.5 cup wheat starch
- 1 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp white pepper
- 1.5 cup water
Instructions
- Rehydrate dried shrimp in warm water for 20 minutes, then finely chop along with the Chinese sausage.
- Grate the daikon radish into thin strips and sauté in a large pan until softened and translucent, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add chopped sausage and shrimp to the pan, cooking for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Mix rice flour, wheat starch, salt, white pepper, and water in a large bowl to create a smooth batter
- Stir the cooked daikon mixture into the batter until well combined.
- Pour the mixture into a greased cake pan and steam over boiling water for 45-60 minutes until set.
- Remove from steamer, let cool completely, then slice into rectangles.
- Pan-fry the slices in a lightly oiled skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
