Sweet Medjool dates filled with cheese, wrapped in kataifi, and baked until golden with honey and pistachios.

Ingredients

  • 7-8 pitted medjool dates
  • 7-8 small mozzarella sticks or akawi cheese
  • 1 cup shredded kataifi or shredded phyllo dough
  • 1/2 cup crushed pistachios
  • 1/2 cup melted ghee
  • 1 tbsp honey, for drizzling
  • 1 tsp rose water (optional)

Instructions

  1. Remove pits from dates and fill each with a mozzarella stick or akawi cheese.
  2. In a bowl, toss shredded kataifi with melted ghee until well coated.
  3. Wrap the ghee-coated kataifi around each filled date.
  4. Arrange the wrapped dates in a baking tray lined with ghee.
  5. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 10-11 minutes, or until the kataifi is golden brown.
  6. Flip the dates halfway through baking if needed for even browning.
  7. Drizzle generously with honey and sprinkle with crushed pistachios before serving hot.
