Serves: 2Prep: 10 minCook: 10 min

Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined, patted very dry
  • 2 to 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 3 tbsp hot honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 to 2 tsp rice vinegar
  • 2 cups steamed rice, for serving
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds, for serving
  • 2 tbsp sliced green onions, for serving

Instructions

  1. Toss the shrimp with cornstarch, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until lightly and evenly coated, about 1 minute.
  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering, then add the shrimp in a single layer and sear for 1 to 2 minutes per side until golden and just cooked through.
  3. Transfer the shrimp to a plate, lower the heat to medium, and melt the butter in the same pan for about 30 seconds.
  4. Add the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, stirring constantly, until fragrant but not browned.
  5. Stir in the hot honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar, then simmer for 30 to 60 seconds until the sauce looks glossy and slightly thickened.
  6. Return the shrimp to the pan and toss for 30 to 60 seconds until fully coated and sticky, then remove from the heat.
  7. Serve immediately over steamed rice and finish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
