Sticky Sesame Crispy Air Fryer Tofu by Kiramukerji

Crispy air-fried tofu tossed in a thick, sticky sesame-soy glaze, ready in 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 block (400g) extra firm tofu
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Boil tofu block in salted water for 5 minutes, then drain and pat dry. Cut into bite-sized cubes.
  2. Toss tofu cubes with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt until evenly coated.
  3. Air fry tofu at 200°C (390°F) for 12–15 minutes, shaking halfway, until golden and crispy.
  4. While tofu cooks, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sesame seeds, minced garlic, and sliced green onion in a small bowl.
  5. Pour sauce into a small pan over medium heat and bring to a simmer, about 2–3 minutes.
  6. Mix cornstarch with 2 tbsp water to make a slurry, then whisk into the simmering sauce. Cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring, until the sauce thickens and turns glossy.
  7. Add the crispy tofu to the pan and toss to coat evenly in the sticky sauce. Serve immediately over rice.
