Creamy Chicken Tikka Masala by Keyanskitchen

Tender seared chicken simmered in a spiced tomato-cream sauce with aromatic ginger and garlic.

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp chicken bouillon
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 head garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 14 oz heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tsp kasoori methi (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix chicken, yogurt, oil, and half of the spices (garam masala, bouillon, coriander, turmeric, garlic powder, onion powder, salt) in a bowl; marinate for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat a pan over medium-high heat with a splash of oil and sear chicken pieces until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes; remove from pan and set aside.
  3. Add chopped onions to the same pan and cook over medium heat until golden brown, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in minced ginger and garlic, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add the remaining spices (garam masala, chili powder, turmeric, onion powder, garlic powder) and toast for 30 seconds.
  6. Pour in crushed tomatoes, stir well, and simmer gently on low for 30 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  7. Stir in heavy cream and butter, then return the seared chicken to the pan; simmer for 10 minutes until chicken is cooked through.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro and optional kasoori methi before serving.
