Jalapeño Bacon Smash Burgers by Kayla Nasara

Crispy, savory smash burgers topped with fresh jalapeños, onions, and a tangy homemade burger sauce.

Ingredients

  • 14 oz ground beef
  • 0.5 cup thinly sliced onion
  • 0.5 cup thinly sliced jalapeños
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 4 slices american cheese
  • 1 tsp ground pepper
  • 1 tbsp lawry's seasoning salt
  • 3 tbsp mayo
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tsp pickled relish
  • 1 tsp pickle juice
  • 1 tsp mustard

Instructions

  1. Whisk mayo, ketchup, relish, pickle juice, mustard, and a pinch of seasoning salt in a small bowl; set aside.
  2. Cook bacon in a skillet until crispy, remove, and set aside on a paper towel.
  3. Divide ground beef into four 3.5 oz portions and roll into balls.
  4. Heat a heavy skillet over medium-high heat until very hot.
  5. Place beef balls in the skillet and immediately top each with a pile of sliced onions and jalapeños.
  6. Smash the balls down firmly with a heavy spatula, flattening them into thin patties over the onions and jalapeños.
  7. Season generously with ground pepper and Lawry's salt, then sear for 3 minutes until a dark crust forms.
  8. Flip the patties, top with American cheese, and cook for another 2 minutes until cheese is melted.
  9. Assemble burgers on buns with bacon and the prepared sauce.
