Ingredients
- 10 apples (such as gala, fuji, or honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/2 cup water or apple cider
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp maple syrup (optional, adjust to taste)
Instructions
- Combine the chopped apples, water or cider, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a large pot over medium heat.
- Cover and simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very soft and starting to collapse.
- Remove from the heat and let the apples cool for 5 minutes.
- Mash with a potato masher for a chunky texture, or blend with an immersion blender until smooth.
- Stir in maple syrup only if the apples need extra sweetness, then serve warm or chill for later.
