Seared sesame-crusted tuna served with a sharp, crunchy cucumber salad.

Ingredients

  • 1 tuna steak, about 8 oz
  • 2 tbsp black and white sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 tsp crispy chili oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1/2 garlic clove, grated
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Brush the tuna steak with 1 tablespoon soy sauce, then coat all sides evenly with the sesame seeds.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat until very hot, about 2 minutes.
  3. Sear the tuna for 20 seconds per side, turning to brown the entire surface while keeping the center rare.
  4. Transfer the tuna to a board and rest for 1 minute, then slice with smooth gliding motions.
  5. Smack the cucumber with the flat side of a knife, then cut into bite-size chunks.
  6. Toss the cucumber with crispy chili oil, soy sauce, vinegar, grated garlic, and green onions until glossy.
  7. Serve the sliced tuna alongside the cucumber salad immediately.
