Ingredients

  • 225g (0.5 lb) ground lamb
  • 250g (0.55 lb) ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 tbsp shawarma seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil (for searing)
  • 0.5 head lettuce, shredded
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 0.5 cucumber, diced
  • 0.5 cup pepperoncini, sliced
  • 100g feta cheese, crumbled
  • 0.5 cup roasted red bell peppers, sliced
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for salad dressing)
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar

Instructions

  1. Combine ground lamb, ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, shawarma seasoning, salt, and pepper in a large bowl and mix thoroughly.
  2. Form the meat mixture into 12 medium-sized, uniform meatballs.
  3. Heat neutral oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear the meatballs until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.
  4. Transfer the browned meatballs to a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 15 minutes until cooked through.
  5. Prepare the salad by tossing shredded lettuce, red onion, diced cucumber, pepperoncini, feta cheese, and roasted red bell peppers in a large bowl.
  6. Whisk together olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, and pepper, then drizzle over the salad just before serving.
  7. Blend mayonnaise with the remaining roasted red bell peppers, a pinch of salt, and pepper in a food processor until smooth.
  8. Serve the warm meatballs alongside the salad and drizzle with the roasted pepper sauce.
