Goodfellas-Style Sunday Sauce by Domenicskitchen
Slow-simmered tomato sauce with garlic and assorted meats, served over perfectly al dente pasta.

Ingredients
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) crushed tomatoes
- 450g (1 lb) italian pork sausage links
- 450g (1 lb) beef meatballs
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, torn
- 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 500g (1.1 lb) rigatoni or spaghetti pasta
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat and sauté sliced garlic for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
- Add the sausage links and meatballs to the pot, searing them on all sides for 5-7 minutes until browned.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes, add oregano, salt, and pepper, then stir to combine until ready to serve.
- Reduce heat to low, cover partially, and simmer for 2.5 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Stir in fresh basil during the final 10 minutes of simmering.
- Cook pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water according to package directions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes.
- Drain pasta and toss directly into the sauce or serve the sauce over the pasta over medium heat until heated through, about 5 min.
