Ingredients
- 2 lb beef chuck steak
- 0.5 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp fresh ginger
- 4 cloves garlic
- 2 whole star anise
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 2 cup water or beef broth
Instructions
- Cut the chuck steak into 2-inch chunks and sear in a hot pot or pressure cooker until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the minced ginger, smashed garlic, star anise, soy sauce, and sugar to the pot.
- Pour in the water or broth until the beef is mostly covered.
- If using a pressure cooker, cook on high pressure for 45 minutes; if using a stovetop, simmer covered for 2 to 2.5 hours until the beef is fork-tender.
- Remove the beef and boil the remaining liquid on high heat for 5-10 minutes until reduced to a syrupy glaze.
- Serve the beef drizzled with the reduced sauce over rice with steamed greens.
