Ingredients
- 1.25 lb ny strip steak, thinly sliced
- 2 broccoli crowns, cut into florets
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp shaoxing wine
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 0.75 tsp baking soda
- 0.5 cup low sodium beef broth
- 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 0.5 tsp msg
- 1 tsp rice vinegar
- 0.5 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced steak with light soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and baking soda. Let marinate while preparing other ingredients.
- Blanch broccoli florets in boiling water for 2 minutes, then immediately transfer to an ice water bath to stop the cooking.
- Whisk together beef broth, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, ginger paste, sugar, MSG, rice vinegar, and sesame oil in a small bowl
- Heat a medium-high pan, sear the steak strips until browned on both sides, then remove from the pan.
- Add minced garlic to the same pan and cook until fragrant, then deglaze with a splash of Shaoxing wine.
- Return the steak and broccoli to the pan, pour in the sauce mixture, and bring to a gentle simmer
- Stir in the cornstarch slurry (mixed cornstarch and water) and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats everything evenly.
