Ingredients

  • 1.25 lb ny strip steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 broccoli crowns, cut into florets
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp shaoxing wine
  • 1 tsp white pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 0.75 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 cup low sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 0.5 tsp msg
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 0.5 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced steak with light soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and baking soda. Let marinate while preparing other ingredients.
  2. Blanch broccoli florets in boiling water for 2 minutes, then immediately transfer to an ice water bath to stop the cooking.
  3. Whisk together beef broth, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, ginger paste, sugar, MSG, rice vinegar, and sesame oil in a small bowl
  4. Heat a medium-high pan, sear the steak strips until browned on both sides, then remove from the pan.
  5. Add minced garlic to the same pan and cook until fragrant, then deglaze with a splash of Shaoxing wine.
  6. Return the steak and broccoli to the pan, pour in the sauce mixture, and bring to a gentle simmer
  7. Stir in the cornstarch slurry (mixed cornstarch and water) and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats everything evenly.
