Crispy Caramel Apple à la Mode by Byrontalbott

Warm caramelized apples with toasted brown butter hazelnuts, topped with cold vanilla bean ice cream.

Ingredients
- 4 large apples (honeycrisp or granny smith), peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup hazelnuts, roughly chopped
- 1/4 tsp flaky sea salt
- 1 pint vanilla bean ice cream
Instructions
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat, stirring until it turns golden brown and smells nutty, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the sliced apples to the skillet and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until softened and slightly caramelized.
- Sprinkle sugar over the apples and cook for another 5-7 minutes, stirring until the sugar melts into a deep golden caramel sauce.
- Toss in the chopped hazelnuts during the final 2 minutes of cooking to toast them lightly.
- Remove from heat, sprinkle with flaky sea salt, and serve immediately topped with a generous scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
