Filipino Beef Picadillo by Beabeabeatherese
Savory ground beef simmered with diced vegetables, sweet raisins, and a vibrant tomato-based sauce.

Ingredients
- 450g (1 lb) ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
- 2 medium carrots, diced
- 400g (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1 medium bell pepper, diced
- 1/2 cup frozen peas
- 1 tbsp cooking oil
- 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat, add ground beef, and cook until water evaporates and the meat browns, about 8-10 minutes.
- Remove the beef from the pan and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pan.
- Add onions and tomato paste to the pan, sautéing for 3-4 minutes until onions are translucent and paste is fragrant.
- Return the beef to the pan and stir in the diced carrots and potatoes.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and water, then stir in the raisins.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 12-15 minutes until the potatoes and carrots are tender.
- Stir in the bell peppers and cook for 3 minutes, then add the peas and cook for 1 additional minute before serving.
