Tender round steak seared and simmered in a savory beef broth gravy with caramelized yellow onions.

Ingredients

  • 900g (2 lb) round steak or cube steak, cut into 4 portions
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp avocado oil
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish; dredge steak pieces in the mixture until evenly coated.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear steaks for 3-4 minutes per side until deeply browned; remove from pan and set aside.
  3. Add butter and sliced onions to the same skillet, sautéing for 8-10 minutes until softened and golden brown.
  4. Stir in 2 tablespoons of the remaining flour mixture into the onions, cooking for 1-2 minutes to toast.
  5. Whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce gradually, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  6. Return steaks to the skillet, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 25-30 minutes until the meat is tender and the gravy has thickened.
