Serves: 8Prep: 30 minCook: 50 min

Ingredients

  • 1 kg (2.2 lbs) granny smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 150g (3/4 cup) granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2 disks prepared pie crust
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Toss the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a large bowl until evenly coated.
  3. Roll out one pie crust and press it into the bottom of a 9-inch pie dish.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the crust and dot the top with the cubed butter.
  5. Cover with the second crust, trim the edges, and crimp to seal; cut a few slits in the top for steam to escape.
  6. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
